The Seoul Metropolitan Government has planned various ways to reorganize Yeouido Park, which is at the level of a neighbourhood park, into a cultural park in the city centre, reflecting the status change of Yeouido, which has been upgraded to a city centre as well as an international financial centre.
The 2nd Sejong Centre for the Performing Arts in Yeouido Park is a leading project of the "Great Han River" initiative, which is being pursued to enhance the urban functions of Seoul with a focus on the Han River. To improve the landscape along the Han River and enhance the city's competitiveness, a planning and design competition has been conducted with the goal of establishing a creative and innovative landmark design along the river. As a building that requires creative and innovative design, a planning design competition is implemented first to establish a business plan by setting an appropriate project cost after confirming the design first from the initial planning stage.
After this planning design competition selected 5 teams will carry out the design service.
September 8th, 2023, selected 5 teams will attend a Public Hearing in Seoul City Hall.
Afterwards the preliminary procedures such as central investment review will be completed during 2024, and the design competition will be announced. The winner announcement of the design competition is scheduled for the first half of 2025.
